Deciding on your resolution is the fun part. However, people often falter by creating daunting, unachievable goals without a clear path of action. Whilst others opt for an insignificant objective that is too easily forgotten. We’re here to tell you that all of your wildest dreams can come true with a few simple tricks!
K.I.S.S (Keep it small stupid)
Taking on a mammoth goal can be everything but motivational, just thinking of it makes your stomach flip. Mindfulness expert, Jacqui Lewis’s biggest tip is to set one challenge a month. For example, if you want to lose weight or live healthier, the first month you’d challenge yourself to eat more vegetables, the second month; exercise 3-4 times a week, and so on. Breaking the ultimate goal down into smaller goals makes it feel more achievable and enjoyable.
Put it in writing
Writing down your resolutions makes them more concrete and clear. Keeping it somewhere you can see throughout the year will act as a pleasant reminder when you’re not feeling so inspired.
Be kind to yourself
You’re going to make mistakes; it’s inevitable that you’ll skip a workout or have that extra piece of chocolate, but that’s all part of the journey. Forgive yourself, move on and try again.
The Jerry Seinfeld tip
If your resolution is a daily habit or ritual you wish to adopt, try this trick that Jerry Seinfeld employed to better his writing skills.
Purchase a yearly wall planner and marker. Everyday that you complete your goal, mark a cross on that day. After a week or so of completing your daily goal, you will notice you are starting to create a chain of crosses. Eventually you’ll become increasingly motivated to complete your daily goal without breaking the chain. Before you know it, you’ll have a perfectly linked chain of 365 crosses… oh and you will have completed your resolution. You’re welcome.
